Residential

Gates can be made from all types of fencing material including chain link, wood, ornamental aluminum, ornamental iron and PVC and can either swing or slide.  Gates can be made for any size opening and can open from either side.  Slide and swing gates are usually single or double leaf.  Your choice of gate size and type depends on the surrounding ground and space considerations, as well as cost.

Typical single swing gates are made up to a 6' width.  Larger single leafs can be made but would require industrial components.

When considering a slide gate you will need enough additional area to accommodate the sliding portion of the gate when open.  You must keep in mind that a slide gate is actually 50% larger than the opening to account for the counterbalance needed to support the gate.

For Do It Yourselfers
The size of a gate is measured from the inside of your hinge post to the inside of your latch post. Chain link gates are welded at corners.  A decorative scroll can be added. Various types of  hardware are available for swing gates.  Typical hardware includes standard hinges with a fork latch for a single swing gate or a center locking device for a double swing gate.  Self closing hardware can be added at an additional cost.

Self-Closing Hardware

• Gravity hinges that are used in place of the standard hinges.
  
• A spring gate closer that can be placed between the standard hinge.
  
• "Kant Slam" hydraulic closer
  
• "Tru-Close" hinges typically used on square posts.
